The U.S. concept of ‘Black Friday’ – treating the Friday after Thanksgiving as the start of the Christmas shopping season, has, over the past few years, crept into U.K. shopping habits too. Today, 25 November, is Black Friday, and shoppers are being lured into parting with their money by the prospect of big discounts.
But it’s also Buy Nothing Day, an anti-consumerist challenge to spend 24 hours not buying anything at all – with some great slogans such as ‘shop less live more’ and ‘no purchase necessary’.
