When you are in a product or service dispute it is easy to get exasperated, but instead you could consider all your legal options first. Unknown to many people, small claims procedures exist for disputes ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 euros. Besides, there is a European procedure for cross-border small amount disputes, which is about to become even simpler. This video will take you to Hungary, where tens of thousands of people use the small claims procedure every year. You will see an interview with a small wine company owner, who shares his bad experience with an unpaid invoice, showing the need of an efficient procedure for resolving cross-border disputes. A Hungarian judge stresses the need for " quick and effective instruments "; he says that the victims often cannot afford to not get back their money for long periods. Nevertheless, Hungarians file less than 100 cross-border claims each year. There is a lot to be done to raise the awareness of the available procedures and rights, so that people can benefit from them in greater numbers. In Brussels a review of the current resolution mechanisms is taking place and a reform for further optimisation is expected in the near future.
