The Supply Cha!nge project focuses on raising awareness about, and taking action on, the ethics of supermarket supply chains. Having researched international industries that supply Europe with raw-materials from across the world, the project uncovered both environmental and human rights abuses in the supply chains of palm oil, cacao and sugar – all of which are found in products we consume every day. This abuses include child labor, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and violations of land rights, and women’s rights.
To mark the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery on Friday 2nd December, the project will be launching a Europe-wide petition for the EU to hold businesses accountable for violations taking place throughout their supply chains. Keep your eye on the forum – we’ll be posting a link to this petition tomorrow, so you can get all your students involved in making supermarkets fair!
