Only 38% of Italian female students address their education path towards the so-called Stem subjects - Science, technology, engineering, mathematics. This mainly happen for cultural obstacles dictated by the stereotypes that women are not prepared for these subjects.
On the International Day of women and girls in science (11 of February), the Italian Minister of Education, Stefania Giannini launched "Female students want to 'count'! The month of Stem" , an initiative of the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Department of Equal Opportunities for the promotion of innovation and science in schools among girls and boys.
From March 8 to April 8, schools will be able to reflect on the phenomenon and propose or join initiatives on the issue with the aim of making raise awareness in the students of the importance of equal contribution to the social and cultural development of the country, even in areas traditionally and wrongly considered unattractive to women.
