In 1993, a group of Japanese researchers conceived and developed RoboCup, a world football championship for humanoid robots. The ambitious objective is to organize, by 2050, a match between humanoid robots and the world champion football team. Meanwhile, every year a Robotics Championship is organized.
The 20th edition of the RoboCup will be held in Leipzig, Germany, from today until 4th of July 2016. The aim of the championships is to raise public awareness on the fundamental role of science and technology.
More than 500 teams from 40 countries with 3,500 participants are expected to compete at the 20th RoboCup in Leipzig.
