Google pushes on solar energy with his Project Sunroof, a portal to calculate the savings resulting from the installation of solar panels on the roof.
The service is now active only in the United States, where provides estimates for solar energy of 43 million homes in 42 states. The idea of launching a tool to provide estimates on the savings generated by the installations for entire communities of people and not just to individual homes. The software produces estimates crossing the local weather data with images of buildings from Google Earth, and based on the information of the electricity bill, and therefore on individual consumption, provided by users. According to Project Sunroof in over 90% of the communities covered by the service, at least half the roof is suitable for solar.
