What is Sustainable Consumption?
I think that sustainable consumption includes environmental, economic and social aspects.
- Quality of life;
- Wise use of resources, and minimisation of waste and pollution;
- Use of renewable resources within their capacity for renewal;
- Fuller product life-cycles; and
- Intergenerational and intragenerational equity.
According to the Oslo Definition: "the use of services and related products which respond to basic needs and bring a better quality of life while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations".
Do you think is more useful to present to the students a formal definition or do you believe is better to help them to find their own definition once they have understood the concept?
I don`t like very much definitions because life is more complicated. Most important for me that students could understand that everything is connected- if some parts suffers then all system will be weak.
