Air passenger redress via out-of-court resolutions
The Eurobarometer survey shows that 22% of the air transport users (870 million passengers travelled by air in 2014 in the EU) had faced disruption in the last 12 months when travelling by air. The most common forms of disruption were long delays, baggage-related disruptions such as delayed, damaged or lost baggage, or cancellation.
The existence of a well-functioning Alternative / Online Dispute Resolution scheme is key for reaching a high number of mutually satisfactory redress solutions (both for airlines and passengers).
The latest report by the ECC-Net aims to establish an overview of the current situation regarding out-of-court resolution (mediation, conciliation) in the air passenger rights and to provide with further recommendations for air travel sector.
