This strand of the energy in action resource helps teachers to introduce students to different ways to reduce and prevent energy wastage in the home. Energy in Action is a new programme for teachers to help young people learn about energy through the Junior Cycle Curriculum in Ireland. Energy in Action offers a collection of activities and ideas designed to support the teaching and learning of energy and sustainability in the junior cycle classroom. These activities have been developed for use with an inquiry approach to energy education and aim to enhance students’scientific knowledge, skills and competencies. There are four strands in total and you can either download the strand in full or pick the activities you want and download them individually. Five key themes are covered: Retaining heat energy; The environmental impact of using energy; Cutting greenhouse gas emissions ; Smart packaging and Solar energy. Teachers are provided with suggested approaches to teaching the topics with lots of practical activities, experiments, discussion topics/questions, worksheets, resource and video links. This 1,5 h video records a panel discussion about the planed free trade agreement (TTIP) between the EU and the US.It highlights the main concerns civil society actors have with the project. It gives a good introduction of the topic and touches upon several major issues, such as energy-dependency, the model of the European wellfare society, democratic decision making, climate chage, agriculture and GMOs, public services, etc. It is essential to anybody wanting to know more about the implication of the TTIP on consumer rights. It is espcially advised to teachers teaching about consumer protection. The panel discussion took place in 2014 in the framework of Green Summer School.
