Consumer in the 21st Century - A Piece of Paper
Although the worldeconomy is as complex as it is, our own household is most simple to oversee when we recognise that we have only twelve necessities of life. Even on a piece of paper not bigger than A4 we can draw the big picture of our household budget the year round in only 12 x 12 squares for all our expenses! And do the planning of all our activities most efficient and effective especially when we also document all our emails, articles, notes, magazines and books in the same way. An easy tool for every day "consumer governance"!
To demonstrate it in the classroom we can make a blackboard drawing of the big picture. About the daily needs and why we need them, the process of decision making and how to choose, and the bookkeeping of what products and services we chose and payed for. With that scheme in mind all other lessons and experiences, questions, arguments and all aspects of worldeconomy, politics and culture can become more and more transparent and understandable in their interconnectedness as a whole.
